CHRONIC DEBT

Start here

A short route through the first decisions when money is tight.

Begin with what can actually happen next

Not every debt problem is urgent in the same way. If you received a court summons, read the lawsuit guide and check the court deadline first. If a collector contacted you, verify who is calling and find the dispute date on the notice.

If the immediate problem is that your money will not stretch far enough, begin with which bills to pay first. If an old account resurfaces, check the time limits for lawsuits before making a payment.

Make one folder, not a perfect system

Collect letters, statements, court notices, payment confirmations, and dates. Use the paperwork guide if you need a simple way to organize them.

Then choose one next move

You may need to dispute an amount, ask a lender for hardship terms, or compare debt counseling with settlement. You do not need to agree to a payment while you are still figuring out whether the account and balance are correct.

Read the full guide library or use the free calculator and letter template. Nothing here requires registration.
