Why this site exists
Debt is often discussed as though every problem begins with careless spending and ends with a clever budget. That leaves out unemployment, illness, family emergencies, changing interest rates, billing errors, and the fact that some balances simply cannot be repaid under their current terms.
Chronic Debt publishes readable explanations of U.S. consumer debt issues. The goal is to help visitors recognize important deadlines, understand the tradeoffs in different options, and find the underlying rules without being sent through a sales funnel.
The guides are written for ordinary readers rather than lenders, debt collectors, or the debt relief industry. Primary sources are linked where available, particularly the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Courts, and the Internal Revenue Service.
What this site does not do
It does not sell debt settlement, collect information about individual debts, guarantee results, or offer individualized legal advice. A general article cannot determine which state law governs a particular account, what a court will do, or whether a certain bankruptcy filing makes sense.
This site is new. It does not claim an established staff, credentials, personal success stories, or a track record that has not been documented. The aim is to earn confidence by making the material accurate, specific, and checkable.
